I've had an interest in religious iconography for a long time. This project allowed me to learn more about how different time periods and cultures have depicted Jesus Christ. Recreating the works of art was a lot of fun.
Above left are the first thumbnails of potential layout. In the above right and in the image below, I was exploring how to portray the art in the spread. My initial thought was to just do fairly faithful recreations in black and white lines. I ended thinking the rough and loose energy of how I drew the thumbnails, and ended up drawing all seven in this fashion.
